Hi! I’m Emma. Let me tell you about my typical day.
I usually wake up at quarter past seven. I have breakfast at quarter to eight, and I leave home at half past eight.
I walk to work. It takes half an hour, so I start working at nine o’clock.
At half past twelve, I have lunch with my colleagues. Our lunch break lasts forty-five minutes.
I finish work at twenty past four. Then I go shopping at ten to five.
I have dinner at half past seven in the evening. After dinner, I read a book at quarter to nine.
I go to bed at half past ten. That’s my day!

“Today has been a lesson in changing plans.”

Hi, I’m Emma. Today has been a lesson in changing plans. I’d originally planned to finish a client report between quarter past nine and quarter to eleven, then prepare for a presentation at half past eleven.
At nine, an urgent call came in. A colleague was unwell, so I was asked to lead her project briefing from half past nine until quarter past ten. I was supposed to send the report before lunch, but I realised I would need to postpone that.
I contacted the client straight away. Provided that the report arrived by three, she was happy to wait. I used the forty-five minutes before eleven to prepare for the presentation instead, leaving half an hour to check the video link and take a short break.
The presentation went well, although it finished twenty minutes later than expected, at ten to one. I ended up having a quick lunch until quarter past one, then worked on the report for ninety minutes.
By the time I sent it at quarter to three, I had fifteen minutes to spare. I’d rather protect that deadline than squeeze in another meeting, so I moved an internal catch-up to tomorrow.
I still need to reply to some emails. I might have to leave a little later, but I won’t skip my evening walk. That break helps me switch off.
